UK Fashion & Textile Export Awards open for entries

The UK Fashion & Textile Association (UKFT) launches its 2011 Export Awards – the 25th anniversary of the event.
“This is a great milestone in the recognition of excellence in exports,” says Paul Alger, director of international affairs, UKFT, “and we are hoping this year's Awards will attract entries from companies that have been selling overseas for the past 25 years as well as those who are just starting on their international journey. The Awards are particularly timely, as given the current economic climate, more companies than ever are looking to grow their business through exports.”
For the 2011 Awards the categories have been revamped to open up the competition to a broader spectrum of both suppliers and retail companies within the fashion and textile industry, as well as recognise the importance of the internet in selling overseas.
The categories are: Brand of the Year, Designer Business, Great Brit , New Exporter, Retailer or E-tailer, Rising Star and Textiles. The Gold Award will be presented by headline sponsor HSBC and there will also be a presentation of a Lifetime Achievement Award.
The Awards are open to all UK-based business and entries will be judged by an expert panel of industry specialists. Deadline for entries is 5pm on 17 June 2011.
Among the companies that have won an Award since 1986 are: Aquascutum, Ariella, Barker Shoes, Ben Sherman, Belinda Robertson, Chester Barrie, Berlei, Dents, figleaves.com, Goat, Gossard, Henri-Lloyd, Henry Poole & Co, John Smedley, Johnstons Cashmere, Links of London, Mulberry, Orla Kiely, Pittards, Rainbow Club, Sam Ubhi, Sara Berman, Sarah Arnett, Tickittyboo, Speedo, Start-Rite, Superdry, Tateossian, The Duffer of St George and Vivienne Westwood.
It is expected that the Awards will presented at a lunch in October by HRH The Princess Royal, who has presented them since their inception.
