J&K launches Rs 100mn handloom & woollen project

The integrated project for 'Development of Wool and Woollen Design' involving an investment of Rs. 100 million was recently inaugurated by J&K Minister for Industries and Commerce, SS Slathia in Srinagar.
The project has been approved under the Prime Minister's Economic Package.
During the tour of various units, workers briefed him regarding the production. The Minister was informed that, the workers were imparted necessary training in production of quality handloom and woollen textiles.
The Minister said that, the project is mainly aimed at revival and up-gradation of Jammu & Kashmir's wool industry, so as to make the most of the immense potential of the state's aboriginal wool and woollen items.
Launch of this project, would provide the much needed boost to the state's economy, Slathia said and added that, the handloom industry in the state has great potential for employment generation.
Showkat Ahmad, Managing Director of the J&K Handloom Corporation updated the Minister regarding the corporation's key achievements and pledged that, they would continue producing quality wool items which would be made available at Corporation's different showrooms.
Showkat further revealed that, pursuant to the project ,several laboratories have been established for quality control purpose, which would help them to churn out best quality woollen items.
Further, the Minister while addressing the workers gave an assurance that, all their legitimate demands would be considered compassionately, and asked the workers to put in their best efforts and see to it that the set targets are met.
