Swazi handicrafts bring global fame

Swaziland handicrafts industry has earned a good international recognition for the country, Minister of Commerce Industry and Trade Jabulile Mashwama has said.
She noted that the Ministry was quite delighted by the growth that the handicraft businesses, which sells in domestic and global markets, have attained.
Some of these businesses have grown so strong that they are now even able to provide their workers with social benefits like health care provisions, Mashwama said.
The Minister added that these firms have earned international recognition for the country as a supplier of well designed premium handicraft items. Also, these big businesses have made a way for the smaller firms to grow and penetrate in the overseas market.
It is vital because, if such growth persists, it would lead to generation of higher employment opportunities and would even alleviate poverty in the country, the Minister said.
She said that the handicraft sector was the source of employment for the most vulnerable sections of the society. She added that her Ministry believes that nurturing individual natural talent is the key to develop sustainable entrepreneurship.
It is important to deliberate on and initiate efforts to not only recognize talent among local youth but also provide an appropriate atmosphere for the talent to flourish, she added.
