Japanese ethylene output marginally up in May

In May 2011, Japanese ethylene output rose marginally over the same month of the previous year.

May ethylene production totaled to 560,900 tons, up 1.4 percent from a year earlier, when it stood at 569,000 tons.

It however rose 9.1 percent over the previous month, the Ministry of Economy, Trade & Industry (METI) data revealed.

Three plants underwent maintenance shutdown in May 2011, the same as in May 2010.

METI also said that, ethylene export volume fell to 152,500 tons in April, down 31.4 percent from a year earlier and also down from 208,700 tons in March.

It has still not released ethylene export figures for May 2011.
