All Pakistan Textile Mills Association (APTMA) has released a statement asking the Sui Northern Gas Pipelines Limited (SNGPL) to resume five days a week gas supply to the textile sector in Punjab.

The statement further stated that a meeting of APTMA members was held to discuss the worsening situation in light of the three-day gas suspension to the textile sector.

APTMA Chairman Mr. Gohar Ejaz condemned SNGPL for unbalanced gas load shedding, which has caused the textile industry in the State to bear 43 percent of the overall shortfall, while the transport sector suffers just 13 percent.

In order to seek fair and transparent distribution of gas to all the stakeholders, APTMA has constituted a delegation which would place its three-point demand before President Asif Ali Zardari, Prime Minister Yusuf Raza Gilani, and Minister for Petroleum Dr. Asim Hussain, the APTMA Chairman said.

The three-point agenda is to seek Government's assurance over – five days a week supply of gas to the textile industry, speeding up the imports of Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG), and diverting the gas quota of the Independent Power Producers (IPPs) to the State's textile industry, once the gas company's contract with IPPs cease on June 30.

Meanwhile, Dr. Asim Hussain, Federal Minister for Petroleum and Natural Resources, has assured the APTMA Chief that five days per week gas supply would be supplied to the textile industry in Punjab.
