During July-April 2015-16, Pakistan earned $10.395 billion from textiles and apparel exports compared to exports worth $11.265 billion made in the corresponding period of the previous fiscal, data released by the Pakistan Bureau of Statistics showed.
Category-wise, knitwear exports fell by 1.91 per cent year-on-year to $1.933 billion during the ten-month period, while exports of non-knit readymade garments were up by 4.87 per cent to $1.798 billion.
Among textiles, raw cotton exports fetched $75.672 million during the period under review, showing a sharp drop of 47.70 per cent compared to exports of $144.693 million made during the same period of the previous fiscal. Likewise, cotton yarn exports fell by 32 per cent to $1.081 billion, as against exports of $1.590 billion made during July-April 2014-15.
Exports of cotton fabric dropped 9.89 per cent to $1.879 billion during the period under review, while bedwear exports declined by 4.34 per cent to $1.674 billion, the data showed.
On the import side, synthetic fibre imports dropped 9.68 per cent year-on-year to $398.872 million, whereas imports of synthetic and artificial silk yarn declined by 4.37 per cent to $528.372 million.
However, the value of textile machinery imports during the period increased by 1.92 per cent year-on-year to $375.087 million. (RKS)
