Category-wise, knitwear exports rose 8.84 per cent year-on-year to $2.670 billion during the eleven-month period, while exports of non-knit readymade garments increased 4.16 per cent to $2.440 billion.
Among textiles, raw cotton exports fetched $18.876 million during the period under review, showing a decrease of 67.19 per cent compared to exports of $57.534 million during the same period of the previous fiscal.
Cotton yarn exports showed decline of 16.01 per cent and fetched $1.048 billion, as against exports of $1.247 billion made during July-May FY18. Exports of cotton fabric decreased marginally by 3.65 per cent and were valued at $1.941 billion during the first eleven months of fiscal 2018-19, while bedwear exports increased by 1.60 per cent to $2.088 billion, the data showed.
On the import side, synthetic fibre imports were up 8.66 per cent year-on-year to $530.766 million, whereas imports of synthetic and artificial silk fell by 1.98 per cent to $618.035 million. Meanwhile, the value of textile machinery imports by Pakistan declined by 7.33 per cent year-on-year to $474.197 million during the period under review.
In fiscal 2017-18 ending June 30, textile and garment exports from Pakistan increased by 8.67 per cent to $13.530 billion over $12.450 billion exports in the previous fiscal. (PC)
