Cotton arrival up 9.96% y-o-y at ginneries by Dec 1: PCGA

The arrival of cotton at ginneries in Pakistan by December 1, 2014, has increased by 9.96 per cent year-on-year, according to the fortnightly report on cotton arrivals, prepared by the Pakistan Cotton Ginners’ Association (PCGA), in joint cooperation with All Pakistan Textile Mills Association (APTMA) and the Karachi Cotton Association (KCA).

Cotton arrival increased by 9.96 per cent year-on-year to 12.145 million bales at ginneries in Pakistan as on December 1, 2014, compared to arrival of 11.045 million bales during the corresponding period of last season, according to the data.

In Punjab province, the total cotton arrivals grew by 12.32 per cent year-on-year to 8.498 bales, according to the data. In Sindh province, cotton arrivals increased by 4.83 per cent to 3.647 bales as on December 1 during the ongoing cotton season 2014-15.

Of the total arrival of 12.145 million bales, 10.941 million bales were pressed by ginners, of which 9.7 million bales were sold, leaving an unsold stock of 1.241 million bales with the ginners, as on December 1.

The textile mills in Pakistan consumed 9.375 million bales, while another 312,830 bales of cotton were sold to exporters, and the Trading Corporation of Pakistan procured 12,400 bales, according to the data.

At present, a total of 877 ginning factories are operational in Punjab compared to 840 ginneries that were operational during the same time last season. Similarly, 262 ginning units are currently operational in the Sindh region, compared to 235 operating units during the corresponding period last year.

In 2013-14 cotton season, Pakistan’s cotton output increased by 3.69 per cent to 13.391 million bales, compared to the previous season’s production of 12.915 million bales. (RKS)
