The committee formed by the ministry of textile industry for restructuring the Pakistan Central Cotton Committee (PCCC) has proposed auctioning its seed varieties through open competitive process to multiply the variety to enhance per-acre crop output. The committee also suggested hiring a consultant to finalize the auction process and frame the details.

A recent meeting of the restructuring committee also urged the All Pakistan Textile Mills Association (APTMA) for actively contributing and providing financial resources to PCCC for enhancing its outreach for development and research of cotton.

APTMA was also urged for reviewing its decision regarding non-payment of cess with its members and ensure payment of cess for smooth functioning of the committee, according to a Pakistani news agency report.

The meeting was held under the chairmanship of the federal secretary of the ministry of commerce and textile industry division and attended by the directors of various cotton research institutions.

The restructuring committee also consists of two APTMA members and four members of the National Assembly — Chaudhry Asad-ur-Rahman, Chaudhry Iftikhar Nazir, Sheikh Fayyaz-ud-din and Sajid Mehdi. (DS)
