Professor Luigi Ferini-Strambi bags 2015 EBIA Award

The European Bedding Industries Association (EBIA) has named professor Luigi Ferini-Strambi as the winner of the 2015 EBIA Award.
Working as an associate professor of general psychology at Università Vita-Salute San Raffaele Hospital in Milan, Luigi Ferini-Strambi's research focuses on sleep disorders and behavioural sleep-related disorders.
He is the author of close to 200 publications on various sleep-related research topics and a member of various scientific societies including the World Association of Sleep Medicine and the International REM Sleep Behaviour Study Group.
According to an EBIA press release, as an expert in sleeping disorders, he has also drawn public attention to the impact of a good mattress on sleep quality.
With this award, EBIA recognises professor Ferini-Strambi's dedication to improve people's sleep and his bridge-building efforts with the bedding industry.
“EBIA will therefore further strengthen its ties with Professor Ferini-Strambi to pave the way for the improvement of the sleeping experience of consumers all over Europe,” the trade body added.
Next to becoming an honorary member of EBIA, the winner is also rewarded a €5,000 grant to support his or her ongoing work in the field of sleep.
EBIA created the EBIA Award to promote creativity and innovation within the bedding sector and this year, EBIA's members overwhelmingly voted in favour of Luigi Ferini-Strambi.
Professor Ferini-Strambi has a degree in Medicine and Surgery and specialised at the Università degli Studi in Milan.
In 1984, he worked at the Sleep Disorders and Research Center of the Baylor College of Medicine in Houston (Texas).
During his career, he has also worked in the Sleep Disorders Centre of Stanford University, Palo Alto, California, for extended periods.
He was given a research grant to work at the Clinica Neurologica dell'Istituto Scientifico H San Raffaele from 1985 until 1988, after which he became the medical director of its Sleep Disorder Centre.
In 2006, he was appointed associate professor of general psychology at Università Vita-Salute San Raffaele Hospital.
He is also a member of various scientific societies including the European Sleep Research Society and the American Academy of Sleep Disorders.
The European Bedding Industries' Association (EBIA) was founded in 2000 to represent the interests of the bedding industry and currently comprises of around 150 members located in eleven European countries.
The main objective of EBIA is to stimulate and raise awareness for the industry's commitment to producing quality products while acting as the bedding industry's permanent voice. (AR)
