Push for agriculture and rural areas in budget 2018-19

Promising to build a strong, confident and a new India, finance minister Arun Jaitley began presenting the budget 2018-19 stressing the development of agricultural and rural economy, infrastructure creation, and working with states to improving education. In his speech, Jaitley said that the government is focusing on generating higher income for farmers.

With the major focus on the agriculture sector in the Union Budget, Jaitley announced that the government has fixed minimum support price (MSP) at 1.5 times the input cost of farmers from the coming Rabi season. "In 2018-19, more than Rs 14 lakh crore would be spent on agriculture and rural related projects. The institutional credit for agriculture sector will be raised to Rs 11 lakh crore," said Jaitley.
