Radianza: An eco-friendly success story for Thai Acrylic

Thai Acrylic Fibre (TAF), a leading manufacturer of acrylic fibres and owner of the Birlacril brand, has launched a unique solution to the challenges of strict environmental laws imposed on the textile industry with its Radianza acrylic fibre. TAF, headquartered in Bangkok, Thailand, operates as a subsidiary of Aditya Birla Management Corporation.

Yarns made with Radianza, the gel-dyed fibre, have replaced the conventional yarn and fabric dyeing in many applications that use more water and discharge harmful chemicals. Changsuo textiles, one of the most famous core spun yarn spinners in China, is manufacturing these yarns with Radianza fibre for many end-applications ranging from sweaters to blankets under their brand name Cologeal.

Radianza fibre is a ready-to-use, gel dyed fibre and comes in a range of vibrant colours. The fibre has excellent colour fastness, consistency, and shade uniformity. It is available in a wide range of colours in fibre form (regular and shrinkable) and in tow and tops (regular and high bulk) in a range of deniers. It can be blended with all kinds of fibres or can be spun as 100 per cent.

The most important benefit of Radianza fibre is that it provides one of the innovative solution it provides to address the increasing threat to the environment and natural resources at various stages in textile processing.

Satyaki Ghosh, CEO TAF said, “Availability of safe drinking water is reducing globally. In developing nations, the search for safe drinking water can be a daily struggle. Millions of people are getting affected every year from preventable diseases caused by the lack of access to clean water. The best gift we can give to the future generations is clean water free from pollution.”

Echoing the thought, Tang, owner of Changsuo Textiles, says “Today our industry is faced with the challenges of making sustainable products that are of the highest quality. Using Radianza fibre in our product range has been very valuable for us to address both these challenges and our customers are also liking the product very much. Our AF Core spun yarns – branded Cologeal – made from Radianza fibre, have colourful shade matching and a perfect hand feel. The fabric made from Cologeal yarn also has a wonderful warm effect. This year we will launch the end-products like sweaters and home textiles made from Cologeal at the Intertextile exhibition in Shanghai. We have developed a new range of blankets with Cologeal yarns which will be a special feature.”

A fabric made from yarns with 100 per cent Radianza fibres would require only 20 per cent of water/energy as compared to conventional dyeing. Moreover, as there is no need of dyeing at a yarn or fabric stage, there is also no discharge of dye stuff unlike in conventional dyeing where dye stull losses lead to polluted effluent. (GK)
