  • Indian government aims to improve logistics through technology, infrastructure development, and smarter planning, as per Union minister Piyush Goyal.
  • Despite challenges, India's overall exports have grown in the last two years, and the government is working to change mindsets and improve the logistics system for the country's future development.
Indian government is taking steps to improve logistics by utilising scale, efficiency, and building blocks through technology to bring down the logistics cost, according to Union minister Piyush Goyal. Massive infrastructure development through PM GatiShakti, the Unified Logistics Interface Platform, and dedicated freight corridors are examples of initiatives aimed at smarter and faster planning and implementation of projects.

Logistics has become the centrepiece of India's policy making in its journey towards becoming a developed nation and a leader in international trade, said the ministry of commerce and industry quoting Goyal, who spoke at the Indian Council for Research on International Economic Relations (ICRIER) Release of the Report on Express Delivery Services in New Delhi.

The minister also stressed the importance of trust, transparency, and talent in the success of India's trade. Despite challenges like inventory pileup, high raw material costs, freight issues, and the COVID-19 pandemic's impact, overall exports from India have shown growth over the last two years. The government is making a conscious effort to change the mindset of looking at things from the old perspective and living in hesitations of history, Goyal added.
