Solapur will get a Rs 300 crore garment park in order to promote the city as a garment and uniform hub of India. The government of Maharashtra will provide the necessary infrastructure to successfully establish and launch it, said Subhash Deshmukh, the textile minister of the state. It is likely to generate employment for over 60,000 people.

Narsing Girji Mill’s 27 acres of land has been identified as the place to set up the garment park, said Deshmukh while addressing the audience at the inauguration ceremony of the first global uniform and garment manufacturer’s fair in Solapur.

The garment park’s bhoomi pujan ceremony will be held on January 26, added Deshmukh. The park will provide employment to over 60,000 bidi workers, apart from multiple other unemployed people.

About 82 stalls displaying latest designs in garments and uniforms have been set up at the trade event.

Spot loans of up to Rs 10 million will be sanctioned for the local garment industry by the Bank of Maharashtra during the three-day fair, said Ravindra Marathe, chairman and managing director of the bank.
