Stahl & Ananas Anam to enhance sustainability of Pinatex

Stahl, a leading company in process and specialty chemicals for a wide variety of materials, and Ananas Anam, a pioneer company in innovation and product development within the circular economy, have announced their intentions to collaborate to enhance the performance and sustainability of Pinatex, a natural textile made from pineapple leaf fibre.
The joint R&D will represent a breakthrough in the sustainable, innovative new materials that are at the forefront of the needs of the 21st century.
Michael Costello, director of sustainability at Stahl said, “Stahl is always looking for ways to reduce the environmental footprint of the industry. That’s why we are proud to partner up with Piñatex to finish such a unique material with bio-based solutions. This is a great example of how more circular innovative materials can be introduced to the market.”
Piñatex is a natural plant-based and versatile material made of fibres from pineapple leaves, a by-product of the pineapple harvest. From initial sampling to developing a viable supply chain, Piñatex journey is inspired by the principles of a circular economy and cradle-to-cradle values. Piñatex is patent-protected and is being marketed to the fashion and accessories, upholstery and automotive industries.
Both companies are committed to developing products and systems in tune with the values of a circular economy, combining research and innovation to enhance the well-being of the earth and its people through the entire life cycle of the product and needs of future generations.
Stahl and Ananas Anam are displaying Piñatex products, at the ongoing APLF Leather and Materials+ fair, in Hong Kong, from March 14 to March 16, 2018, in hall 1A, booth B02. (GK)
