| Govt reiterates support to textile industry | | August 04, 2009 (Pakistan) |  |
 The government has committed to support the textile industry as it knows the importance of the industry that generates 65 percent of the foreign exchange and employs 42 percent of the overall workforce.
The Federal Minister of Textiles, Mr. Rana Mohammad Farooq Saeed said this in a meeting with members of All Pakistan Textile Processing Mills Association (APTPMA). He added that the government is also aware of the market access difficulties for exports.
The commercial sections in the foreign embassies would be restored and only the personnel who could deliver the goods would be posted, said the Minster adding the textile sector is the most important sector of Pakistan, as its contribution in country’s economic growth is commendable.
Salient features of the textile policy, which is expected to be implemented in future, were revealed by the Secretary Ministry of textiles, Dr. Waqar Masood. He also mentioned that the policy members would deal with the difficulties that are being faced by the textile manufacturers at present.
The problems such as cost of manufacture, availability of utilities, human resource development, market access etc. would be addressed by the textile policy.
He said that the members of textile policy are concerned about the fact that Pakistan stood at twelfth position in cotton exports though it is the forth largest producer and third largest consumer of cotton in the world.
