Tri-Star Dyeing and Finishing, a California based textile company has installed a water recycling system with the help of a $692,000 subsidy from the Metropolitan Water District of Southern California. Tri-Star will treat the waste water using microfiltration and reverse osmosis, and reuse it in the dyeing process, instead of discharging it.

The water recycling project is expected to save around 3,540 acre feet of water (acre-foot of water= 326,000 gallons) in the next 10 years, for which the company is eligible for a subsidy of $692,000 under an agreement, approved by the Metropolitan board.

Tri-Star's dyeing machines currently use about 160 million gallons or 491 acre feet of water per annum, to process more than 16 million pounds of fabric.

The incentives for Tri-Star are provided by the district's Water Savings Incentive Program, which offers funding for commercial, industrial, agricultural and large landscape projects that reduce water consumption. (AR)
