Xinjiang to host textile and garment development forum

Under the theme 'Joint Development, Sharing, Opportunities, Cooperation', the 2016 The Belt and Road Initiative Textile and Garment Development Forum will be held in Urumchi, Xinjiang from September 20-23, 2016.

The forum, to be held alongside the 5^th China-Eurasia Expo to be held in Urumchi from September 20-25, is aimed at promoting in-depth cooperation with the countries along 'The Belt and Road Initiative' in textile and apparel industry through full integration of such a national strategy and development of the industry.

Experts from national think tanks, Development Research Centre of the State Council, and outstanding business representatives in textile industry will share their views at the forum. It will also see participation of decision-making officials from the countries along the belt and road initiative as well as business leaders and representatives of national institutions from mainland China, Asean and other countries and regions.

More than 300 other participants, including investors, project leaders as well as textile and garment enterprise owners from both Xinjiang and outside would also attend the event.

The textile and apparel industry in Xinjiang is witnessing rapid growth. In 2015, the industry had total fixed assets of 31.79 billion yuan with an increase of 231 per cent over the previous year, and 382 new textile and apparel enterprises creating 97,000 job opportunities.

Today, Xinjiang is the region where China's textile and garment industry is enjoying the most investment enthusiasm, the lowest cost, and the fastest growth. (RKS)
