The Zero Discharge of Hazardous Chemicals (ZDHC) Roadmap to Zero Programme, has announced the BLC Chem-MAP as ZDHC Accepted Certification Standard. The ZDHC Foundation is a collaboration of value chain affiliates, leading the textile industry towards zero discharge of hazardous chemicals. BLC centre is an independent leather technology centre.

Going forward, the above product certification will be an indicator of chemical formulations conforming to the ZDHC’s Manufacturing Restricted Substances List (MRSL) v 1.1 within the ZDHC Gateway - Chemical Module.

BLC Chem-MAP will offer certification products to chemical suppliers to certify their formulations at the ZDHC MRSL Level 1 conformance. Furthermore, BLC Chem-MAP offers chemical suppliers the option to achieve Level 3 conformance and specialises in leather technology and chemicals.

The ZDHC Roadmap to Zero Programme has always maintained its intention to leverage existing certification and the expertise of others as indicators of ZDHC MRSL conformance, as opposed to developing its own certification system for ZDHC MRSL conformant chemistry.

ZDHC Programme Director Scott Echols said, “As with ECO PASSPORT and ToxFMD certifications, the BLC Chem-MAP certified chemical products will be directly verified and officially assessed within the ZDHC Gateway - Chemical Module.”

Victoria Addy, technical director from BLC said, “We are excited about the Chem-MAP programme and are delighted to be one of the first providers of ZDHC Level 3 MRSL conformance. We are looking forward to engaging the chemical manufacturers in the Chem-MAP programme and working collaboratively towards improved chemical inputs into footwear and apparel supply chains.”

The ZDHC Accepted Certification Standard process is open to organisations anywhere in the world to apply to be considered for accepted standard status. (GK)
