The Fiber Society announces its Spring 2012 Conference

The Fiber Society's Spring 2012 Conference will take place May 23 through May 25 at the Empa facilities, St. Gallen Switzerland. Fiber Research for Tomorrow's Applications is the conference theme. Submissions of original work related to the following areas, as well as other aspects on the frontier of fibers and fibrous materials, are welcome:
• New Polymers/Materials for Fibers
• Fiber-related Bio- and Nanotechnology
• Technical Textiles/Composites
• Fiber Development, Processing, and Characterization
• Smart Textiles
• Comfort/Health
• Fashion/Apparel
Online submissions will be accepted beginning December 1, 2011. Submission deadline is February 29, 2012. Notification of acceptance will be no later than March 30, 2012.
Conference registration will be online through the Fiber Society website.
Dr. Rudolf Hufenus, Empa, is the conference chair. Around 70 oral presentations by polymer and fiber scientists from all over the world are expected. Keynote speakers include Dr. Phillip Gibson, Natick, USA; Dr. René Rossi, Empa, Switzerland; Dr. Martin King, North Carolina State University, USA; Prof. Vladan Koncar, Ensait, France; Prof. Urs Meier, Empa, Switzerland; and Prof. Thomas Scheibel, University of Bayreuth, Germany. English is the conference language.
The U.S.-based Fiber Society was founded in 1941 and is incorporated as a not-for-profit professional and scientific association, dedicated to the advancement of scientific knowledge pertaining to fibers, fiberbased products, and fibrous materials.
The Society is composed of members who are chemists, physicists, and engineers with interests in the field of fiber science engineering and technology. Its hold two annual conferences, one international in the spring and one domestic in the fall.
