Kerala Government plans to begin 90 new small scale units in five industrial parks and two industrial estates under the aegis of Kerala State Industries Development Corporation (KSIDC).

In his speech during the Budget - 2006-07, Vakkom Purushothaman, Finance Minister of the State, said that units would generate direct employment for more than 300 persons and indirect employment for 2000.

For the development of industrial parks, KSIDC would grant finance to units costing less than Rs1 crore, provided they were set up in identified industrial parks.

Around 900 acres of land would be acquired at Kakkanad in Kochi for a special economic zone based at port.

For industrial units, 100 acres of land was proposed at Kazhakuttom in Thiruvananthapuram.

Purushothaman said the Kerala Industrial Infrastrcture Development Corporation would provide land in Palakkad and Kasaragod districts to set up textile parks with 40 percent equity from the Centre.

Handloom weaving is also considered under this scheme and a provision of Rs85 lakh has been made for starting mini pre-loom process, added Purushothaman.

A Rs3 crore rebate claim of arrears of primary handloom weavers' cooperatives has also been sanctioned, he said.
