EATP (the European Association for Textile Polyolefins), in close collaboration with CIRFS, the European Man-made Fibres Association, held its annual Executive Seminar in Brussels on May 28.

Textile polyolefins are a major sector of the European textile industry, producing polymers, fibres, fabrics and a wide range of other products, from polypropylene (PP) and polyethylene (PE).

European output of polyolefin textiles exceeds € 3 billion a year. They have a huge range of uses, in floorcoverings, packaging, home textiles, engineering, agriculture, hygienic and medical products, sportswear and much else.

The theme of the 2013 Executive Seminar was “Succeeding in a Challenging Environment”.

A panel of 10 expert speakers, covered the following:

- A picture of the global economic outlook;
- A consultant’s view on polyolefin feedstock trends;
- Views on developments of the man-made fibre markets;
- Results of the annual EATP Market Study;
- An insight into polymer price volatility;
- Global challenges and opportunities for cotton;
- An overview of technical textiles in Turkey;
- A paper on cross-sectorial innovation;
- Guidance on how to get your say in EU environmental policy making;
- A presentation on carpets.

EATP Director General Frédéric VAN HOUTE said: “This was a lively and very successful Executive Seminar, with excellent presentations. It shows the dynamic and flexible approach of the European polyolefin fibres and textiles industry in its recovery from the crisis.

Efficiency, quality, good marketing, customer service, environmental responsibility and innovation are at the centre of the success of the industry. European producers are continuing to look to the future, and the value that they provide to their customers will be the basis for renewed growth.

EATP will continue to support this development by representing the industry, making sure its interests are safeguarded, promoting the benefits of polyolefins as a textile material of choice and providing a wide range of services to its members.”
