The Pakistan Textile Exporters Association (PTEA) has appreciated the Pakistan Government’s campaign to arrest gas and power theft aimed at checking large-scale pilferage of natural resources and assuring adequate energy supply to the textile industry, Business Recorder reported.

In a statement, PTEA chairman Asghar Ali and vice chairman Muhammad Asif vouched full support to the Government’s drive noting that massive power and gas theft badly hits the economy, business and industry, as it leads to energy crisis, increased power charges and also discourages new investments.

Checking theft and subjecting accused to exemplary punishment would help in cutting theft incidences in future and also reduce the textile sector’s losses and help in readjusting energy supply.

However, the PTEA officials urged that the genuine gas and power users having legally valid gas and power connections should not be troubled.

The officials said that during a meeting with Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif and Provincial Law Minister Rana Sana Ullah they urged the authorities to take trade association representatives on board for planning such raids so as to avert any problems, and their proposal was accepted.

While vouching their full support to the campaign, the PTEA officials urged the Government to direct its officials to ensure authentication of information before raiding any textile units and even take the trade union representatives on board.
