FICC: trade & services sector employment rise 4.8% in 2005

Uriel Lynn, President of The Federation of Israeli Chambers of Commerce (FICC), said last week that the number of people employed in the service sector in 2005 rose by 5.2 percent, ( 52,900 jobs), to 1.07 million.

The number of people in industry rose during last year by 1.4 percent, (5,300 people), to 391,700.

Lynn also predicted that service sector employment will grow in 2006 by 5 percent, (50,000 jobs), to 1.24 million, and that industrial employment will grow in the same period by only 2 percent, or 8,000 jobs, to 399,000.

Lynn added that the figures demonstrate the need for equal government policies for all business sectors.

In a detailed report published by the Federation, Israels Many, Head of Economics Division at the Federation of Israeli Chambers of Commerce said that overall growth in the business sector jobs in 2005 was 3.7 percent, an addition of 59,600 jobs to 1.66 million.

Many noted that the increase was in the following sectors:

- Employment in the trade and services sector rose in 2005 by 4.8 percent, 15,200 jobs.

- Employment in the construction industry fell by 1.2 percent, or 1,500 jobs, to 127,100.

- Banking and financial employment rose by 3.8 percent, 3,000 jobs.

- Employment in the trade and services sector rose by 4.8 percent, 15,200 jobs;

- Sales sector employment rose by 3.8 percent, 12,400 jobs;

- Transport, warehousing, and communications employment rose by 5.5 percent, 8,500 jobs.

- Catering and accommodation employment rose by 11.3 percent, 11,700 jobs.
