DCCI & CCPIT discuss trade

On Wednesday a trade & commerce summit was held between the Dhaka Chamber of Commerce and Industry (DCCI) members and a high-power Chinese government economic and trade delegation.

MA Momen, President DCCI chaired the assembly leading the his team while the Chinese delegation was headed by Yu Ping, Vice Chairman of China Council for the Promotion of International Trade (CCPIT).

DCCI President in his welcome speech requested the Chinese delegation to assist Bangladesh in setting up a viable trade system for a win-win state of affairs instead of a zero-sum game.

Declaring the current stage of mutual trade between Bangladesh and China, he said the on hand potentiality and the trade is profoundly supporting China.

In 2004-05, export from Bangladesh to China was worth US $57.51 million while import from China was worth $1643.77 million.

He said exporters of Bangladesh have been facing various hurdles in terms of transport, currency and certification requirements.

DCCI President said his country has relaxed its macro-economic strategies and released nearly all segments of the economy, including energy, power, telecom, infrastructure etc. to overseas direct investment (FDI).

Consequently, Bangladesh is competent to spot itself, as one of the striking targets of FDl and the nation has been able to draw FDI value about $800 million in 2005, he added.

He recommended launching a 'China Desk' at the DCCI to distribute economic information.
