National Statistics of United Kingdom released the Productivity for the first quarter of 2006. It stated that output per worker increased by 1.5 per cent in the first quarter of 2006, compared with the same quarter a year ago, up from growth of 1.2 per cent in the previous quarter.
It reported that Quarter on previous quarter growth in output per worker for the first quarter of 2006 increased by 0.3 per cent, down from a growth of 0.9 per cent in the previous quarter.
Unit wage costs for the whole economy in the first quarter of 2006 increased by 2.1 per cent compared with the same quarter a year ago, down from a growth of 2.3 per cent in the previous quarter.
In the first quarter of 2006 whole economy productivity growth (measured by output per worker) was 1.5 per cent compared with the same quarter a year ago, up from growth of 1.2 per cent in the previous quarter. On a quarter-on-quarter basis, productivity grew by 0.3 per cent, down from a growth of 0.9 per cent in the previous quarter.
The increase in annual productivity growth was due to an increase in output more than offsetting an increase in whole economy employment. Annual growth in output was 2.3 per cent, up from a growth of 1.8 per cent in the previous quarter. Growth in whole economy employment was 0.8 per cent, up from growth of 0.6 per cent in the previous quarter.
The decrease in productivity growth on a quarter on previous quarter basis was due to an increase inthe rate of growth of whole economy workers combined with a small increase in the growth rate of output. Whole economy output grew by 0.8 per cent on a quarter-on-quarter basis, up from 0.7 per cent in the previous quarter.
Whole economy workers showed grew by 0.4 per cent over the same period, up from a fall of 0.2 per cent in the previous quarter.
