Textile industry lays emphasis on skilled labour

Textile Ministry has set up an expert group to find the key areas where skills should be updated to meet the global standards.
Expert Group consists of stakeholders and representatives of National Institute of Fashion Technology (NIFT), Northern Indian Textile Research Association (NITRA), South India Textile Research Association (SITRA), Ahmedabad Textile Industry's Research Association (ATIRA) and Indian Institute of Technology (IITs).
The group will suggest ways to create a pool of skilled manpower to meet rapidly growing demands of textile industry, which was emphasized by Prime Minister when he said that the country needed to develop R&D in textiles and clothing.
Industry officials said that they needed skilled manpower able to understand fashion, lifestyle, technology, designs and management in national as well as international market.
