A press release from the State Intellectual Property Office conveyed that Wang Shenyang, President of China Chamber of Commerce of Importers and Exporters of Textiles, has inked a Co-operative Memorandum for safeguarding intellectual property with representatives of Austria and Germany.

Wang also inquired about the state of Sino-European textile trade and bilateral co-operation.

Chinese President Schurzer informed that people around the world are worried over the issue of intellectual property, hence EU is focusing on its protection for next year. The matter will be reviewed at G8 Summit.

Schurzer expected the Memorandum to strengthen relations of China with Austria and Germany.

Wang said that Government of China has significantly considered the safeguarding of intellectual property in previous years and announced “Plan of Action for 2006 Intellectual Property Protection in China”.

It has also lowered standards for punishing intellectual property crimes, with 3 lakh infringement cases being handled in 2005.

Wang informed that currently 32 centers in China's provinces and cities register complaints regarding intellectual property and also that 4 lakh people are appointed for its protection.

He added that inspection units have been assigned with the safeguarding of intellectual property at Guangzhou commodity fairs. Once infringement is reported, the participating enterprise will be disqualified.
