National Bureau of Statistics of the Republic of Moldova releases the economic situation of the Republic of Moldova for January–September 2006.

The results of the national economic activities in January-September of the previous year are as follows:

Gross domestic product in January–June 2006 amounted 18758 million lei, being 5% higher than in the corresponding period of the previous year.

Industrial enterprises of all types of ownership produced goods to the amount of 14959 million lei, in current prices. The volume index of industrial production in comparison with January-September 2005 constituted 93%, but in September 2006 as compared to September 2005 this index showed 84.6%.

At the same time, the growth of volume of industrial production of the following activities had been noticed (which, however, did not outweigh the decrease of production in the branches mentioned before): leather tanning and dressing; medical, optical and precision instruments; cement, gypsum and lime making; carpets and rugs production; manufacture of fabricated metal products; cutting, shaping, finishing of stone; steam and hot water supply; dye and lacquer production; metal manufacture; shoe making; electrical energy production and distribution etc.

Retail sales of goods in January-September 2006 totalled 16220 million lei, 5,3% higher than the same period of the previous year, that was conditioned by the growth (with 10,2%) of sales of goods in commercial units.
