Sources from South Gujarat Chamber of Commerce and Industry informed that owing to sincere efforts by Union Textiles Minister Shankersinh Vaghela, owners of textile units ruined during the August floods are likely to receive a Central relief package shortly.
A group of 50 members from Mumbai Textile Commissioner's office observed the condition of these factories after floods, following which they submitted a calamity report to Vaghela. He passed it to Prime Minister's office for procuring a relief package.
Processing and weaving sections, looms, embroidery, etc in almost 5,845 textile units were damaged by floods, causing net loss of Rs874.25 crores. Production losses and destruction of machinery, raw materials and furniture have brought about this loss.
Numerous units have not reopened till now as owners are facing huge debts. Certain owners are struggling to get bank loans sanctioned for rebuilding purpose, but their efforts fail to bear fruit.
