Textiles, clothing & footwear retail sales up in Oct

According to Statistical Office of Estonia, the retail sales of retail trade enterprises in constant prices grew 17% in October 2006 compared to October of the previous year.
In October, the retail sales of goods of retail trade enterprises were 3.9 billion kroons. In October the increase was fastest in stores selling manufactured goods (30%). In grocery stores the sales increased 6% compared to October of the previous year, but the growth was smaller than in the previous months.
In stores selling textiles, clothing and footwear positive trend continued, the sales increased by 38% compared with the same period of the previous year. Other specialised stores, non-specialised stores (with industrial good predominating) and mail order sale enterprises were also successful (the increase of sales 23%, 22% and 18%, respectively).
Compared to September 2006, the retail sales of retail trade enterprises in constant prices increased by 4%. The retail sales of textiles, clothing and footwear (19%) and retail sales of industrial goods in non-specialised stores (18%) increased most. The retail sales were influenced favourably by discount sales campaigns and by sale of clothing and footwear for autumn-winter season.
The net sales of retail trade enterprises were 4.9 billion kroons. Compared to October 2005, the growth in current prices was 23%, compared to the previous month — 6%.
