Exports of the country surge at 26.4%

During July of 2006-2007, exports of the country stood at US $1143.36 million compared to $904.41 million in same period of 2005-2006, a hike of 26.42 percent, according to the Export Promotion Bureau (EPB) statistics.
The target set for July 2006 was $1152.50 million but it was only able to achieve $1143.36 million during the period, a decline of 0.79 percent over target.
While exports of knitwear, leather, home textiles and handicrafts witnessed increase in growth during the July of 2006-07, exports of jute goods, leather, petroleum by products, textile fabrics, raw jute, footwear, and leather bags, exceeded that of last fiscal, but failed to achieve the target.
Exports of jute earned $26.96 million during the period compared to $25.72 million of the same period of 2005-06. Leather exports earned $25.96 million during the period over $18.74 million over the corresponding period, a surge of 38.53 percent.
