SIMAC & Tanning-Tech: a fine re-start

Reunited in the Bologna exhibition centre from 17 to 20 April, SIMAC and Tanning Tech have – at least partially – rediscovered the laustre of their heyday, when manufacturing and processing industries followed technology with great interest.

An initial success can be recorded in what seems a more settled market for the leather-footwear-leather goods sector. After the recession that started in 2003 and inevitable reductions, business forces in the system have upgraded themselves, proving that they have acquired sound rights to citizenship in the global economic world.

The success of the footwear and leather-goods industry and renewed vigour of the tanning industry have produced a positive effect that has run through the sector to technology.

Apart from slight difficulties in the injection sector, footwear machinery, in particular, and leather-goods machinery attracted much attention, which was then turned into purchases in many cases.

Nor was interest in tanning technology lacking, although perhaps to a lesser degree; we all know that historically the tanning machinery cycle follows that of footwear machinery by one year. So, with an already positive Tanning Tech behind us we can only be more optimistic for the next one.

The number of admissions was also very positive and, while awaiting all the data, we can record a marked return of operators, Italians included, which took a step forward in visitor numbers.

Another success was most certainly the additional activities that catalysed the interest of international delegations and operators on SIMAC and Tanning Tech. Concrete actions that will produce equally concrete results.

ASSOMAC Making Machinery 'Talk'
This proposed a standard for the description and transfer of geometric and technological data between design and production phases. The initiative fully and exhaustively addresses the problems encountered in everyday operations by technology suppliers and their clients and will simplify data exchange processes between operators in the footwear system.
