Aiming to prompt fashion giant Liz Claiborne Inc to adopt an official policy against the sale of fur and fur-trimmed items by all its affiliates as Tommy Hilfiger, Kenneth Cole, and Polo Ralph Lauren have recently done a PETA representative will ask the company to adopt a fur-free policy at its annual meeting on Thursday.

Date: Thursday, May 17
Time: 10 a.m.
Place: 1441 Broadway, New York

Although Liz Claiborne Inc does not sell fur under the Liz Claiborne label, it continues to sell fur under other brands that it owns, including Juicy Couture, Dana Buchman, Ellen Tracy, and Kate Spade.

Animals trapped in the wild for fur suffer excruciating pain often for days before their chests are stomped on or their necks are broken by trappers. On fur farms, animals spend their entire lives in tiny, filthy cages, where they suffer physical and psychological distress before they are killed by poisoning, gassing, anal electrocution, or neck-breaking.

In China, the world's leading fur exporter, animals on unregulated fur farms are sometimes skinned alive. Millions of dogs and cats are killed in China for the international fur trade, and their fur can wind up anywherein the world because it is often intentionally mislabeled as fur from other species.
