National Board for MSME to meet tomorrow

The first meeting of the National Board for Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises will be held on 20th June, 2007 under the Chairmanship of Shri Mahabir Prasad, Union Minister for Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises.

The Board has been constituted as per the provisions of the Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises Development Act, 2006 for playing pro-active role in facilitating and coordinating the inter institutional linkages among the organizations of Central/State Governments for the growth and development of Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSME).

The day-long deliberations of the Board is likely to address various concerns of MSMEs like:

• Availability of timely and adequate credit
• Procurement policy – Preference of the Government for procurement of goods produced and services rendered by MSMEs
• Reservation of products for exclusive manufacture by MSMEs
• Simplification and harmonization of the applicability of the labour laws including maintenance of registers and filing of return by MSMEs and inspections by Government authorities
• Delayed payments by buyers to MSMEs
• Skill training for weaker sections
• Skill development for SC/STs, and
• Cluster development for SC/STs etc.

The members will also familiarize themselves with the provisions of the MSMED Act, 2006.
