Domestic Investment in the Manufacturing Sector:
The government has targeted domestic investments to increase to 60 per cent of total approved investments in the manufacturing and services sectors during the Third Industrial Master Plan (IMP3) period (2006-2020).

Towards achieving this target, trade and investment seminars are organised annually by MITI and it agencies to update domestic investors on the Government's trade and investment policies, incentives and support services available.

The objective of domestic investments is aimed at promoting further Malaysian participation in the country's industrial development. Malaysian companies are also encouraged to enhance their capabilities to compete and further integrate into the regional and global markets.

Domestic entrepreneurs should continue to take advantage of the growing business opportunities available in the ASEAN and Asia-Pacific region.

The Government has introduced various programmes and provided facilities to further promote domestic investments in the manufacturing and services sectors.

To improve investment climate in the Northern Region and achieve a more balanced regional growth in the country, Government has declared Perlis as a promoted area whereby companies are eligible for a higher level of income tax exemption, similar to projects located in the Eastern Corridor of Peninsular Malaysia, Sabah and Sarawak.

Domestic investments in the manufacturing sector reached a record level in 2006 with total approvals amounting to RM25.8 billion or 56.1% of the total approved investments.

Investments from domestic sources continue to be encouraging in 2007 (January – April), with total approval amounting to RM4.7 billion or 37.6 percent of the total approved investments.
