MEA to lend helping hand to exporters & manufacturers

The New Zealand Manufacturers and Exporters Association (MEA) was officially launched in Christchurch recently.
MEA has dedicated itself to develop and promote policies supporting the viability of manufacturing and exporting in New Zealand as the cornerstone of the country's long-term economic development.
MEA incorporates the Canterbury Manufacturers' Association (CMA) and the New Zealand Engineering Federation (NZEF) with support from the Engineering, Printing and Manufacturing Union (EPMU).
When Fibre2fashion asked MEA about how it is going to work by combining CMA and NZFE, an association source said that exporters and manufacturers, who are the members of these two associations, needed a clear voice that is independent, apolitical and free of the conflicts of different sectors of the economy. The main motive is the survival of New Zealand as a first world economy.
MEA is much broader than CMA as it is a nationwide association. It will get comment from members that include unions, manufacturers and exporters.
Talking about the difficulty members are facing due to depreciating dollar, the source divulged due to the intensifying dollar value, manufacturers and exporters are facing the pressure and pain in their businesses. It means that while some are trying to survive, others are relocating production offshore or are closing their doors for good.
Manufacturing generates 15 percent of New Zealand's gross domestic product, a third of country's export receipts and employs around 1 in 10 people directly.
