CM Vilasrao graces IMC Foundation Day

Mr Vilasrao Deshmukh, Chief Minister of Maharashtra, was the chief guest at a grand ceremonial event organized by Indian Merchants' Chamber for felicitating the IMC's past presidents as part of IMC's ongoing centenary celebrations.
The event commenced at Y B Chavan Centre at 6 pm today to celebrate the Chamber's 101st foundation day.
The Chamber's Centenary Celebrations Committee is headed by Deepak, along with Niraj Bajaj (President IMC) and M N Chaini (Vice President). The historic journey of Indian Merchants' Chamber, which began on 7th September 1907 in the wake of Swadeshi Movement, has made many significant achievements, which include the following:-
The Chamber's history runs parallel to the history of India. It played a crucial role in freedom struggle, in the promotion of trade, commerce & industry in the planned economy in the post-Independence era as also helped business to become globally competitive in the post-liberalization era. In other words, IMC's evolution is closely intertwined with that of India and the Indian economy.
As authentic representative of the Indian business community, IMC secured representative seats in the imperial Council in Delhi as well as in the provincial legislative councils in Mumbai in the pre independence era.
IMC's representative on Mumbai Port Trust, which was virtual monopoly of European Commerce, Government officials and Government nominees then, ever since 1944.
IMC's recommendations laid foundations for urban development in Mumbai in its early years.
