ICC Gujarat promotes awareness on CHEMICAL WEAPONS CONVENTION

As you are aware that NEW policies of Government keep coming in to force. Similarly a law of 'CHEMICAL WEAPONS CONVENTION' came into force, effective from 1st JULY - 2005. It is an United Nation's Charter, to which most of the countries across the world are signatory except 6-7 like Angola, Egypt, Iraq, North Korea & Somalia etc.
The charter existed since 1993 but it's awareness to chemical industry was not visible. But in the aftermath of 9/11 the pressure was high across the globe & the Government intensified the efforts for awareness of it with ICC in February 2004. During 2005, the charter was ratified by Indian Parliament and made a law of the country w.e.f. July 2005.
'ICC' has arranged nearly 20 awareness programs across the state since then. However, the response from Chemical industry of Gujarat (having a concentration of more than 60 percent) is not positive, as expected. Although, it can be implemented with the force, but ICC never favoured stringent actions against chemical manufacturers looking to business growth and other factors.
Under this law, all segments of chemicals (irrespective of their end product or segment) Pharma/ Pesticides/ Fertilisers/ organic/ Inorganic and Specialty Chemicals etc, all manufacturers have to mandatorily declare the chemicals (used in process including FINAL products).
The declaration is 'MANDATORY' under the law. Non-compliance can lead to closure of establishment, without assigning any reason/notice. However, "IGNORANCE OF LAW OF LAND IS NOT AN EXCUSE". 'ICC' has been exerting its best efforts through the Seminars and even personal persuasion on the subject, to spread the awareness within the Chemical industry!
