Retail sales for mostly durables go up in Aug

Turnover in total retail trade in August 2007 showed an increase of 7.3 percent compared to August 2006.

Compared to August 2006, Retail sales for mostly durables (for example, clothing stores, stores for furniture, stores for second-hand goods, mail order houses) increased by 9.9 percent.

Seasonally adjusted, the monthly index figure for total retail trade is 149.2 (2000=100), which is a decrease of 0.9 percent since July 2007. The last three months (June – August), compared to the previous three months (March – May), showed an increase of 2.7 percent, seasonally adjusted.

Turnover in total retail trade in July 2007 compared to July 2006 showed an increase of 9.5 percent. The monthly index figure for July, seasonally adjusted, is 150.6.

The figures refer to fixed prices, taking into account the number of shopping days. The comparisons refer to the corresponding period in the previous year, unless otherwise stated.
