Govt to start anti-dumping investigation on Chinese imports

Recently, Thai Textile Manufacturing Association submitted a petition to the Ministry of Commerce to initiate an anti-dumping investigation against Chinese imports, mainly cotton fabric and polyester filament.
Thailand has increased imports of these products from 6.9 million Baht to 183 million Baht, which accounts for 85 percent of domestic market share.
Considering this, Thailand Government decided to initiate anti-dumping investigation against textile products from China. Mrs Apiradi Tantaporn, General Director of Department of Foreign Trade, reveals that the appointed committee will examine cotton fabric and polyester filament coming from China. If an investigation finds that the domestic industry is hampered by these allegedly dumped imports, the anti-dumping duties will be levied.
These imports are affecting four Thai companies whose production capacity accounts for 50 percent of the total output of the industry. Moreover, this surging inflow is also disturbing domestic market share.
One of these four enterprises had set the domestic target at 12 million yards per year. However, company was able to achieve only 300,000 yards of sale. As a result, it lost around 97.5 percent of domestic market share. Similarly, another one aimed to attain a domestic sale of 3.6 million yards but sold only 146,388 yards, which was only 5.69 percent of total productivity.
