Positive trend in textiles, clothing & footwear retailing

According to Statistics Estonia, in August the retail sales of retail trade enterprises were 4.6 billion kroons, which is at constant prices 13% more than at the same time a year ago.

In August the fastest increase was continually in stores selling manufactured goods (15%), but compared with previous months the growth rate decelerated. In grocery stores the sales increased 12% compared to August of the previous year. Due to the large share, grocery stores covered about 50% of the increase in the sales of the retail trade enterprises.

In stores selling textiles, clothing, and footwear the positive trend continued — the sales increased 31% during the year. The high demand continued in other specialized stores (sales growth 25%), too.

Compared to July 2007, the retail sales of goods in retail trade enterprises remained at the same level.

In August the revenues from sales of retail trade enterprises were 5.6 billion kroons, out of which retail sales of goods accounted for about 85%. Compared to August 2006, the revenues from sales at current prices increased 16%. But compared to the previous month, this indicator remained at the same level.
