Minister Lord McKenzie at Catalyst Science Discovery Centre

Minister Lord McKenzie of Luton joined local school children at the Catalyst Science Discovery Centre to see science and technology leave the textbook and come to life.
The centre in Widnes takes children on ground breaking 3D tours of one of the UK's largest chemical sites and shows them in full colour excitement how science is applied in everything from racing cars the latest electronic gadgets and clothes.
It has a fully equipped lab for exciting experiments, interactive careers information and is the only museum in the country dedicated to chemistry.
Speaking at the centre Lord McKenzie said "It is inspiring to see so many children engaging with science and developing the skills that they need not just to pass exams but to play a full part in technology driven society and to contribute to key challenges such as climate change and take part in the debate about the role of science in every aspect of our lives."
Jules Burgess-Wilson, Director at Catalyst said, "Every day you can see the transformation of children as they switch on to how exciting and relevant to them science is. The Head of Brookside School told me that after taking part in our Big Revision week the school's Level 4 SATs results went up from 58% to 87%.
We shouldn't under estimate our children's ability to grapple with science we just need to tap into their natural wonder of the world around them."
