Import permit for short staple cotton from India welcomed

The President FPCCI Mr. Tanvir Ahmad sheikh has appreciated the decision of Economic Coordination Committee of the cabinet which has approved import of 0.5 million bales short staple cotton from India through Wagha boarder.

This is timely decision to overcome shortage of local production of cotton crop.

In a statement issued here Mr. Tanvir Ahmad Sheikh has said that we are facing lot of challenges in textile sector and to gear up our efforts towards meeting the challenges faced by the sector we were in need of such dynamic decisions and facilitations, The decision of allowing import of cotton will, beyond any doubt, facilitate the sector in maintaining smooth flow of production of textile products.

Mr. Tanvir further said that in recent past the textile sector has invested huge amount in Balancing, Modernization and Rehabilitation and now we are in much better position to compete our product with other textile exporters.

Mr. Tanvir said that due to increase in cost of doing business because of higher power tariff and other expenses allowing of import of staple cotton from India will help us in maintaining level of production.

Mr. Tanvir Ahmad Sheikh thanks Mr. Shahzada Alam Monnoo for putting in his efforts to resolve the problem faced by textile sector.
