Commenting on the formal government response to the consultation on simplifying business support, released, David Frost, Director General of the British Chambers of Commerce (BCC), said.
"No one can doubt the need for Business support simplification. The current system is beset by waste and duplication and is a massive source of frustration for businesses. Therefore, it is only right that the government is seeking to reform the system.
"The proposals to reduce the number of schemes from 3000 to 100 by 2010 will not necessarily bring about the necessary step change in support that is needed however.
Support needs to be focused on the interests of business and not suppliers and this will require a massive commitment from government at a central, regional and local level to actually make a real difference for businesses on the ground."
