Be it books, clothing products, an increasing number of retail businesses in Germany sell goods via the internet.
As reported by the Federal Statistical Office, about 18% of all retail businesses sold goods in 2006 using this distribution channel which is not tied to specific locations.
As compared to 2004, this was an increase of seven percentage points.
Retail businesses which sold products via the internet in 2006, made 10% of their overall sales via that channel. Hence, online selling still accounts for a share of 4% of the total turnover of retail trade.
