IJSG Ninth Session to discuss on policy matters in April

The two day long Ninth Session of the Council of the International Jute Study Group (IJSG) will be held at its Secretariat in Dhaka during 22-23 April 2008.

The Session is expected to be inaugurated by Mrs. Elisabeth Andrea BÖsch Malinen, Chairman of the Council of the IJSG. All Members of IJSG - Bangladesh, India, Switzerland, and European Community (EC) will be attending the Session. EC represents its 27 Member States. The meeting is also open to all Associate Members and Observers of the Group.

The Council, the highest authority of the IJSG will discuss establishment matters, policy matters as well as administrative and financial matters of the IJSG.

Important issues like world jute situation, jute market development and related matters, observance of the International Year of Natural Fibres 2009, formulating appropriate strategies for the escalation of the world jute economy are likely to be discussed during the Session.

The International Jute Study Group (IJSG) is an intergovernmental body set up under the aegis of UNCTAD to function as the International Commodity Body (ICB) for Jute, Kenaf and other Allied Fibres.
