VP of FPCCI seeks win-win trade climate with Sri Lanka

The bilateral trade relations between Pakistan and Sri Lanka will be supplemented under FTA between the two countries which have a great potential.

It was stated by Mr. Muhammad Farooq Dadabhoy Vice President FPCCI in a meeting with the Sri-Lanka Trade Delegation at Federation House Karachi

Mr. Muhammad Farooq Dadabhoy Vice President further stated that there will be a win - win situation for both the countries under FTA increasing the bilateral trade and economic relations manifold.

Presently the trade volume is in favour of Pakistan which is likely to be little balanced through FTA. He further stated that under SAFTA and particularly FTA between the two countries of SAARC region will not only promote bilateral trade but also contribute in promotion of intra-regional trade.

Vice President FPCCI while briefing the Trade Delegation about the activities of FPCCI suggested for aggressive marketing of Sri-Lankan commodities in Pakistan particularly tea, service sector, tourism and education.

He suggested that Pakistan Sri Lanka should make a joint study to identify such potential areas where they complement each other.

He said that Pakistan can make use of the sri-Lankan expertise in various sectors particularly in tourism, pharmaceutical, ready garments etc while Sri Lanka can have advantage for competitive import from Pakistan particularly rice, fruits, leather, surgical and sports goods etc.

The Vice President also highly appreciated the literacy rate of Sri Lanka which is almost 92.7%.

The leader of Sri Lanka Trade Delegation Mr. S P S Ranatunga made a presentation on Economy of Sri-Lanka and briefed the house about the economic changes taking place in Sri Lanka.

He offered Pakistan companies for investment in Sri Lanka which is being considered a lucrative market having good infrastructure and skilled labour.
