Fall 2009 PREFAB by Supima Cotton to be held at Gotham Hall

Supima has scheduled the fourth edition of its popular PREFAB trade fair for Tuesday, July 15, kicking off New York City's fabric market week for the Fall/Winter 2009/2010.
As all previous editions, the Fall 2009 PREFAB will be held at Gotham Hall.
"We've had amazing response from our attending retailers who love the dignity and drama of Gotham Hall," says Buxton Midyette, Supima's New York-based vice president of marketing.
"And we can't forget that for our heavily scheduled clientele, Gotham Hall is right in the center of the Garment District and easily accessible."
Also coming back will be Supima's roster of speakers. "Our speakers always attract an overflow crowd," explains Midyette.
"People have come to expect that they'll be getting the latest trend information when they attend PREFAB." Making a return engagement will be David Wolfe of the Doneger Group and Carolyn Egan of the Tobe Report and Paul Pelssers of Paul Pelssers, LTD.
The upcoming edition will also feature the addition of Sandy Maclennan of London's East Central Studios, who will create a trend report incorporating fabrics being presented by vendors at the show.
Supima, the 54-year-old, Phoenix-based marketing and promotions company representing U.S. growers of premium extra long staple Pima cotton, will be updating its format in other ways as well.
Based on feedback from previous shows, the exhibitors will also emphasize Supima's role throughout the supply chain not just the production of fabrics.
“We've streamlined the format of the show to present edited collections so that buyers don't have to move from booth to booth wondering if they've seen everything,” comments Supima president Jesse Curlee. “This could change the paradigm: We think PREFAB's new format will be adopted by other shows.”
The show will also be condensed into a single day. “Our new format makes that possible and, since so many of our attendees and licensees are elite global mills, we have to be cognizant of their packed week,” says Midyette.
And, for the first time ever, the July edition of PREFAB will conclude with a live runway event at Gotham Hall on Tuesday evening featuring professional models showcasing designs done by candidates for Supima's inaugural design contest.
The runway event, intended to encourage emerging designers and acquaint them with the softness and quality of Supima fabric early in their careers, will draw from a pool of candidates who respond to Supima's open call, scheduled for Tuesday, June 17 from 4 p.m. to 9 p.m. at the Thompson Hotel in SoHo.
In addition to the PREFAB runway presentation, selected designers will have their sketches and biographical featured in a magazine that Supima will publish and distribute to over 10,000 retailers, buyers and fashion industry insiders.
Winning designs will also be featured on the Supima Web site and included in future promotions.
