This Conference is the second of a series of biennial International Conferences jointly organized by The University of Manchester, UK, North Carolina State University, USA and Shinshu University, Japan.

To be held at the College of Textiles, North Carolina State University, USA, August 13 – 15, 2008, this Conference will offer a unique platform for discussions on the future of textiles through a wide range of interesting and innovative lectures and presentations from manufacturers and suppliers, academic, government and other experts from the Textile/Fiber Products/Retail Complex.

Showcasing novel developments in high-tech and sustainable textiles, textile education, and innovative developments in the textile global economy, this conference will promote and facilitate the interchange of ideas, and inform and stimulate international collaboration.

Conference Themes
The main theme of the conference is The New World of Textiles. Contributions are invited on the overall theme and in particular on the following sub-themes:

Tomorrow's textiles – designing for the future
? It is vital that design and fashion embrace the whole technology and creativity palette encompassing new materials, innovative production and cutting edge technology. Through this fusion, radically different concepts and products can be engineered.
? In the past, the emergence of major industrial and commercial centres occurred through geographical and natural resource opportunities. In the 21st century, Textiles requires clear strategic planning of infrastructure, market specification and characterization and the development of the psychology of success and innovation.
? As world change accelerates, the basic human need to engage with fundamental textile aesthetics and change the sensory boundaries will become more vital.

Textile education for the 21st century
The Textiles Industry was built on leading edge technology, creative design, and imaginative management. To re-establish this “entrepreneurial mindset” of the dynamic first Industrial Revolution, it is vital to coordinate, encourage and effectively market a confident dynamic textiles culture. Tomorrow's market and product innovators need to be excited and motivated by “us”! How is the question!

Full conference attendance includes access to all presentations, conference pack, refreshment breaks, and lunches during the conference, welcome buffet and conference dinner.

The conference dinner will be held on the evening of Friday, August 15th (venue to be confirmed).

The conference will give opportunities to meet an influential audience from academia, business and industry. This is an ideal opportunity to raise awareness of research interests and build new contacts for potential future collaboration.
